Individual Therapy

What’s therapy all about?

Individual therapy is a personalized, one-on-one, sustained form of support. It is a unique process designed to improve your life by helping you learn more about yourself and the way you respond to different people and situations.

In therapy, the relationship we co-create together becomes the vehicle for healing, growth, and change. Many of us go through life without ever feeling we have a space to be fully seen and accepted for who we are — including those parts of ourselves that may feel harder to look at. But having such a space is integral to our growth and development. As psychotherapist Carl Rogers once said: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself, just as I am, then I can change.”

My overarching goal is to provide you with a safe, secure, and genuine therapeutic relationship — one in which you feel fully seen and accepted, encouraged to explore what lights you up and gives you purpose, and empowered to take new risks in the service of cultivating the rich, full, and meaningful life you desire and deserve.

From the foundation of this supportive relationship, the process of therapy can help you get clear on what you want for yourself and what it will take for you to get there. At times, this involves identifying specific changes you want to make, and committing to taking action or trying new things in the present. Other times, moving ahead with intention requires reflecting on past events, experiences, or patterns, and working to understand the impacts they continue to have on your life. As needed, we will pause and do the work of untangling and understanding the impact of significant experiences or relationships in your past — always in the service of improving and deepening your lived experience in the here-and-now.

At the end of the day, therapy is a highly individualized process, and will look different for each client. Together, you and I will determine the unique ingredients and approaches that make therapy feel most helpful to you. Whether you need help formulating a plan for getting unstuck, or would simply benefit from a time and space for you to have a voice and be heard, I am here and ready to help.

Often, my clients come to therapy for support in one or more of the following areas:

  • Managing anxiety & stress

  • Adjusting to major life transitions

  • Navigating difficult decisions

  • Moving through grief & loss

  • Living with a chronic or invisible illness

  • Managing recurring & unwanted thoughts, feelings, or behaviors

  • Living well as an adult with ADHD

  • Concerns related to one’s creative / artistic pursuits (e.g. perfectionism, procrastination, creative blocks, impostor syndrome, performance anxiety, career stress, or a shift in relationship to one’s creative identity)

  • Exploring concerns related to identity, personal values, and questions of meaning/purpose

  • Pursuing deeper understanding of one’s self, increased self-compassion, and improved self-care
