Therapy is a non-judgemental space for you to get extra support. It is often helpful to have someone outside of your friends and family who can be a sounding board on issues and provide professional feedback. Talking to a therapist can help you look at a situation from a different perspective, or understand the connection between events in your life that have had a significant impact on you. In addition to providing a safe space for you to process your emotions with an unbiased listener, a therapist can help you better understand and develop your existing strengths, and learn new coping skills to make life more manageable.
If you're wondering if therapy can help with your specific situation, reach out to set up a free consultation.

Yes! I am currently offering in-person sessions at my Durham, NC office on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. For folks who prefer to meet for therapy virtually, I offer telehealth sessions via a secure video platform.

While some clients are inclined to stick to traditional in-person sessions, others have shared that (sometimes to their own surprise!) they prefer meeting online. There can be many unique benefits to attending therapy remotely. Head on over to my blog to learn more about the benefits of virtual therapy and to see whether online therapy might be a good fit for you!

Great question! I’m glad you’re asking, because it means you understand the importance of finding not just any therapist, but one who’s a great fit for you. Research has repeatedly shown that the single most significant predictor of a successful treatment outcome — more significant than the modalities used, or even the experience level of the therapist — is the quality of the relationship between the therapist and their client.
There is no “one size fits all” in therapy and, ultimately, you get to determine what a great fit looks and feels like for you. With something as vulnerable as therapy, it is especially important that you feel safe, comfortable, and compatible with the person you choose to work with as your counselor. This is one reason I offer a free 20-minute phone or video consultation prior to scheduling our first session. You can use this time to ask me any questions, get a feel for my personality, and learn about my style of doing therapy.
Once we begin, and throughout our work together, I’ll continue to check in with you about how therapy is going for you. If at any point you decide you’d be better served by a different clinician, it’s my job to help you get connected with someone who is a great fit for you! My primary goal is to get you connected with the support you need, whether that’s with me or another provider.

There is no "typical” amount of time to work with a therapist. Ultimately, the goal of therapy is to give you the confidence, tools, and self-understanding to be able to face life without therapy. Depending on what your personal goals are, this can happen in a short amount of time or may take several months or years. It can help to know that therapy is not always a linear process. Sometimes, people will accomplish their original goals and then realize there are other things they want to work on.
Standard therapy sessions are about 50 minutes long. I recommend that new clients meet with me on a weekly basis, when possible, as this helps us to build momentum and establish a strong foundation for our work together. Once progress is made and/or goals are met, you may decide to reduce the frequency of your sessions, take a break, or end therapy.
While I will make treatment recommendations, it’s important for you to know that you are in control of the frequency and length of our work together.

I am in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBS) as of mid-July 2024.
If you have out-of-network benefits and wish to file claims for reimbursement with your insurance company, please let me know. I will be happy to provide you with a “superbill” after each session containing all the necessary information needed to file a claim. I encourage you to contact your insurance to ask about your out-of-network benefits before beginning therapy. Here is a list of suggested questions to ask your insurance provider when you call them.
I offer a limited number of reduced fee/sliding scale slots based on need. We can discuss this option, if desired, during our initial consultation. Please see “fees & insurance” page for more information.

I am available to meet for virtual sessions Monday through Friday, and in-person sessions on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. My earliest opening is at 11:00 am, and my latest is 5:00 pm. Reach out to learn what spots are currently open! If we can't find a time that works for both of us, I'm happy to help you find a therapist with compatible availability.

At this time, I work only with adults 18 and older.

Before we meet, you'll fill out some forms in my online system. These forms cover important info like my practice policies, my professional background, payment options, and informed consent to treatment.
When we schedule our first session, if we will be meeting virtually, you will receive a secure meeting link via email. When it comes time to join our session, simply click on that link. You will be prompted to allow permission to use your audio and camera, and after confirming, we will be connected. If we are meeting in-person, you'll enter my building into a comfortable waiting room where you can help yourself to water or tea. I'll pop out of my office and come get you at our appointment time.
At the start of our session, I’ll briefly go over the forms with you and answer any questions you may have. We’ll then spend the rest of the time getting to know one another and beginning to set goals for our work together. I tend to keep things as conversational and relaxed as possible so that you can feel at ease as we’re getting started. You’re welcome to ask me any questions at this time and throughout our therapeutic process.
I’ve been there — sometimes the first session with a new therapist can feel a little nerve-wracking or awkward, especially if you have never been to a therapy session before and aren’t sure what to expect. Just know that we’ll always go at your pace. As we get started, you can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.
If we are meeting virtually, feel free to bring a cozy blanket, a cup of tea or coffee, your pet, or anything else you may need to be comfortable during our session.
I look forward to meeting you!

If you need to cancel or reschedule your session, I ask that you please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations within less than 24 hours of your appointment (including no-shows) will be charged the full session fee.

First, take a moment to acknowledge the significant step you are taking. Reaching out for therapy is a huge act of self-kindness — one that is worthy of celebrating in itself!
Before we schedule our first session, I typically recommend that we meet for a free, 20-minute phone or video consultation. This will give us a chance to chat briefly about your hopes for therapy, and to see if I am a good fit your needs. We can also use this time to answer any logistical questions you may have about working with me.
You can schedule this free consultation by clicking the green “Book a Free 20-Min Consultation” button on this page, which will redirect you to a contact form. Fill out this form and hit “send”. I will email you back within 1-2 business days to schedule our consultation.
If we feel like a good fit, and you’d like to move forward with therapy, we can schedule our initial appointment right then at the end of our consultation call. Or, if you need a bit of time to think it over, no problem — you can reach back out to schedule when you’re ready.
I look forward to talking with you soon!
