My Approach to Therapy

I love talking and connecting with clients about things that matter. My approach to therapy is warm, relaxed, engaging, and hopeful. My aim is to support you in building understanding and compassion for yourself so that you can move through your life with intention. We all encounter difficulties in our lives - but these difficulties do not necessarily need to overwhelm us or steer us off-course. Instead, with the right tools and support, the challenges we face can be a powerful catalyst for growth, learning, and meaningful change, moving us closer to the version of ourselves that we really want to be.

In therapy and in life, you are the expert of your own experience. As your counselor, my role is to listen deeply and collaborate with you to decide what you’d like to focus on during our time together.

Every person needs and wants something different from therapy. Often, the same person may need something different from one session to the next! Sometimes, all we need is for someone to help us reframe things, or ask just the right question to spark an exploration. At other times, we might benefit from support that is a bit more structured - someone to help us set concrete goals for ourselves, learn new skills to cope with difficult emotions, or even practice those skills alongside us in session. Whatever kind of support you find yourself needing at this time, I am here to help.

Together, we will create a caring, genuine, and trusting relationship in which we explore your values and strengths, honor your struggles, and celebrate your joys and accomplishments. Most importantly, we’ll do all this in service of helping you lead a life that feels authentic, engaging, balanced, and meaningful to you.

All of my work is grounded in identity-affirming, anti-oppression, and trauma-informed perspectives. I work hard to be an ally to all who choose to work with me, whatever their background or identities. Everyone deserves to be heard, seen, and celebrated for who they are, and all parts of you are welcome here.

Outside of my role as a therapist, I try my best to create balance in other areas of life so that I can show up fully and authentically in the therapy room. When not seeing clients, I’m often found playing and/or listening to live music, wandering in the woods somewhere, experimenting in the kitchen, or buying way more used books than I can realistically read.
